Last Christmas, when I was in the fourth grade and my brother was in the first grade, our school held its yearly Holiday Shop. At the Holiday Shop students can buy things like necklaces, key chains, and other small items for their friends and family as Christmas gifts. Since my brother really wanted to take part, my mom gave him two dollars to buy his Christmas gifts.
My mom didn’t know that he had picked out a special necklace for her. When he got

When he wasn’t looking, I took the necklace and put it in my backpack. The next day I took it to school and asked the woman who ran the Holiday Shop if I could change it for the “Mother” necklace. She said yes. When I got home that day, I put the necklace under my brother’s bed.
When my mom opened it up on Christmas morning, my brother was so exalted! My mom’s eyes were filled with joy. She knew what had happened, which made the necklace even more special to her!

A new study, done by a private American organization called Population Action International, warns that about thirty percent of the world’s people may not have enough water by the year 2025. It also says over 335 million people in 28 countries lack enough water now, most of which are in Africa or the Middle East.
PAI researcher Robert Engelman says by the year 2025, about 3,000 million people may lack water. At least 18 more countries are expected to have severe water problems. The demand for water keeps increasing. Yet the amount of water on Earth stays the same.
Mr. Engelman says the population in countries lacking water is growing faster than in other parts of the world. He says population growth in these countries will continue to increase.
The report says lack of water may result in several problems. It may increase health problems. Lack of water often means drinking water is not safe. Mr. Engelman says there are problems all over the world because of diseases, such as cholera, which are carried in water. Lack of water may also result in more international conflicts. Countries may have to compete for water in the future. Some countries now get 60% of their fresh water from other countries. This is true of Egypt, the Netherlands, Cambodia, Syria, Sudan, and Iraq.
The PAI study gives several solutions（解决办法）to the water problem. One way, it says, is to find ways to use water for more than one purpose. Another way is to teach people not to waste water. A third way is to use less water for agriculture. The report also says long-term solutions to the water problem must include controlling population growth.

Baroness Thatcher, Britain’s former Prime Minister, died on April 8 at the age of 87. Baroness Thatcher was born Margaret Hilda Roberts on 13 October 1925. She spent her childhood in Grantham, where her father Alfred owned two shops.
It’s reported a new kind of rose, grown by a company in Shropshire, has been named Grantham’s Thatcher Rose. The pink rose has been shown in memory of Baroness Thatcher in her hometown.
Linda Neal, who attended Baroness Thatcher’s funeral（葬礼）at St. Paul’s Cathedral, said the rose would be finally replanted in the town’s Wyndham Park.
She said she was “honored to represent people from Grantham and throughout South Kesteven as the nation said goodbye to the woman who was born and educated in our town before going on to become the country’s first and only female Prime Minister”.
The funeral was shown on a big screen at Grantham Museum.
Helen Goral, chairman of the museum, said it gave people the chance to pay their respects. “It’s a day of quiet and serious thinking and a chance for people to say goodbye,” she said.

I had a lot of teachers that I loved. However, the teacher I remember most was Mrs. Green from Marianna, Florida. She was my 5th grade teacher. Since I was a new student, she made my time there much more pleasant. I immediately began to like her. She was really funny and I knew that she liked me. She made learning fun. I remember one day for Christmas holidays, she taught us how to make ornaments（装饰物）from eggs. My parents still have some of the ornaments I made.
She made me leader for many group projects and that made me feel special. I think that would make any child feel special, especially when a child is in a new
