CalciumSilicateBlockandPipeThermalInsulation1ThisstandardisissuedunderthefixeddesignationC533;thenumberimmediatelyfollowingthedesignationindicatestheyearoforiginaladoptionor,inthecaseofrevision,theyearoflastrevision.Anumberinparenthesesindicatestheyearoflastreapproval.Asuperscriptepsilon(e)indicatesaneditorialchangesincethelastrevisionorreapproval.ThisstandardhasbeenapprovedforusebyagenciesoftheDepartmentofDefense.

1.Scope

1.1Thisspecificationcoverscalciumsilicateblockandpipethermalinsulationforuseonsurfaceswithtemperaturesbetween80and1700°F(27to927°C),unlessotherwiseagreeduponbetweenthemanufacturerandthepurchaser.

1.2Thevaluesstatedininch-poundunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.Thevaluesgiveninparenthesesareforinformationonly.

7.StandardShapes,Sizes,andDimensions

7.1Calciumsilicateblock-typethermalinsulationshallbesuppliedintheformofpipeinsulation,flatblockorcurvedblocksasspecified.Standardsizesoftheblocktypeinsulationshallbeasfollows:

7.1.1FlatBlock—Flatblockshallbefurnishedinlengthsof36in.(458or914mm),widthsof6to36in.(152to914mm),andthicknessesfrom1to6in.(25to152mm)in1⁄2-in.

9.Workmanship

9.1Sincesomerequirementsforthismaterialarenoteasilydefinedbyanumericalvalue,theinsulationshallnothavevisibledefectsthatwilladverselyaffectitsservicequalities.10.Sampling

10.1TheinsulationshallbesampledinaccordancewithPracticeC390.Specificprovisionforsamplingshallbeagreeduponbetweenthepurchaserandthesupplieraspartofthepurchasecontract.

11.QualificationRequirements

13.Inspection

14.Rejection

14.1Failuretoconformtotherequirementsinthisspecifi-cationshallconstitutecauseforrejection.Rejectionshallbereportedtothemanufacturerorthesellerpromptlyandinwriting.Themanufacturerandsupplierhavetherighttoverifytherejectedproducts.

15.Certification

15.1Whenspecifiedinthepurchaserorderorcontract,aproducer’sorsupplier’scertificationshallbefurnishedtothepurchaserthatthematerialwasmanufactured,sampled,tested,orinspectedinaccordancewiththisspecificationandhasbeenfoundtomeettherequirements.Whenspecifiedinthepur-chaseorderorcontract,areportofthetestresultsshallbefurnished.

16.PackagingandMarking

16.1Packaging—Materialshallbepackagedtoaffordpro-tectionagainstdeteriorationanddamageduringshipmentfrom

themanufacturertotheinitialdestination.Unlessotherwiseagreeduponorspecifiedbetweenthepurchaserandmanufac-turerorsupplier,materialshallbepackagedincontainerssuppliedbythemanufacturerandcommonlyusedforthispurpose.Shippingcontainersshallcomplywiththeregulationsapplicabletothemodeoftransportation.

16.2Marking—Unlessotherwisespecified,eachcontainershallbeplainlymarkedwiththemanufacturer’sname,address,telephonenumber,productname,type,quantityofinsulation,nominaldimensions,andjackettypeandaccessories,ifany,ofthematerialinthecontainer.

17.OrderingInformation

17.1Purchaseordersforcalciumsilicateinsulationfur-nishedtothisspecificationshallincludethefollowinginfor-mation:
