Task 1 Do Task 1.3.1, P10. Have students read the statements about children characteristics and suggestions for teachers. Have students match them and discuss with their group members. Give them the answers. Try to translate some of the suggestions for teachers. A. Make the learning enjoyable and pleasant. B. Keep instructions very simple and support them with body language. C. Organize some hands-on activities for children to do. Use Total physical Response if necessary. D. Use many short and simple activities instead of long activities. E. Do not explain complicated grammar rules to children. Guide children to discover rules by themselves. F. Do not make task too difficult for children. Tasks should always have definite outcomes and repeated elements to ensure security and participation. G. Give children opportunities to imagine and create, e.g. invite them to draw a monster or imagine seeing something through a telescope and tell others about it. 2. Discussion point Have the students read the discussion point and try to find out the important sentences. The important sentence is: We need to consider how to create a real desire for children to learn

Written activities should be less. 4.What kind of activities work well? Games and songs with actions, TPR activities, tasks that involves colouring, cutting, and sticking, simple repetitive stories, and simple speaking activities. Teaching principles: 1) involve children both physically and mentally 2) use the context and body language to help children understand better 3) be tolerant to children’s grammatical errors 4) keep their interest in learning English with different activities like games, stories , songs and rhymes 5.Discussion What are the major differences between children and adults in learning a foreign language? Have the students read the discussion point.
